President William Ruto has directed all government institutions, public offices, and employers to discontinue the use of the term “watchmen” when referring to personnel in the private security sector.
The President said the officers should henceforth be officially recognized as “private security officers,” describing the change as part of efforts to uphold the dignity and professionalism of those working in the industry.
He instructed all public institutions and employers to immediately adopt the new designation in official communication and documentation.
The directive is expected to standardize the terminology used across the country while reinforcing the government’s commitment to recognizing the important role played by private security officers in safeguarding lives and property.
