At least six people, including three students, have been killed following a grisly road accident involving a passenger matatu and a trailer along the Nakuru–Eldoret Highway.
The fatal crash occurred on Thursday, leaving the matatu extensively damaged after a head-on collision. Rescue teams, police officers, and members of the public rushed to the scene to rescue survivors trapped in the wreckage before the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Police said investigations have been launched to establish the cause of the accident. Preliminary findings indicate the collision happened along one of Kenya’s busiest highways, although the exact circumstances remain under investigation.
The tragedy has once again highlighted the growing concern over road safety in the country, with authorities urging motorists to observe traffic rules, avoid speeding, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.
Road safety agencies have continued to call for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and greater caution among road users to help reduce the increasing number of fatal crashes on Kenyan roads.
