Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on Sunday led the Linda Mwananchi political caravan through several towns in Bungoma County, culminating in a major rally at Bungoma Posta Grounds where supporters turned out in large numbers to welcome him.
The convoy, which also passed through Kamukuywa, Kimilili and Chwele after a church service in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County, drew crowds of residents who lined the roads to listen to the leaders’ message ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The tour had been billed as Sifuna’s homecoming and a key stop in the movement’s Western Kenya mobilisation campaign.
Addressing supporters, Sifuna said the movement was focused on giving Kenyans a platform to determine the country’s political direction.”We will soon hold a major meeting in Bungoma where we shall discuss the future of our county, our region and our country,” Sifuna said, describing the gathering as part of a wider national conversation on governance and development.
The Nairobi Senator also reiterated that his political career would not be defined by positions held within political parties.”I was elected by the people before becoming secretary-general and I will continue serving them regardless of the position I hold in the party,” he said.
The Bungoma tour came months after Sifuna emerged as one of the leading voices in the Linda Mwananchi movement following disagreements within ODM over the party’s cooperation with President William Ruto’s administration. Political allies have described the Western Kenya rallies as part of efforts to consolidate support ahead of the next General Election.
Preparations for the Bungoma event had attracted support from a section of political leaders in the region, including former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, who mobilised residents to attend the rallies.
Organisers said the homecoming was intended to strengthen the movement’s presence in Western Kenya while expanding its national political outreach.
