Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua’s convoy came under attack on Friday, August 14, 2026, during his political tour of Nakuru County.
The incident occurred in Kaptembwa, within Nakuru Town West Constituency, where several vehicles in Gachagua’s motorcade were reportedly damaged after being pelted with stones.
Images from the scene showed vehicles with shattered windscreens and windows.Gachagua, who spoke on Saturday after opening a DCP office in Nakuru, accused Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama of being behind the attack.
He alleged that the attackers used stones, axes and other crude weapons, while police officers watched without intervening.
The allegations have not been independently established.
Gachagua said the incident would not stop him from conducting political activities in Nakuru.
Instead, he vowed to increase his presence in the county as he prepares his party for the 2027 General Election.
Other opposition leaders have condemned the incident and called for investigations into the attack.
People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua described the reported violence as a threat to Kenya’s democratic space and called for an independent investigation into claims that political actors may have been involved.
The attack has renewed concerns over political violence as political parties intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
