Kenya’s Junior Starlets have secured a place at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World
Cup for the second time in history.
This is after thrashing South Africa 3-1 in the second leg of the final qualifying round at Nyayo
National Stadium. The victory gave Kenya a 5-1 aggregate win.
The qualification marks another historic achievement for the national Under-17
women’s team, which first reached the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2024. Their latest
success highlights the steady growth of women’s football in Kenya and the impact of continued
investment in youth talent development.
Head coach Mildred Cheche praised her players for their discipline, determination, and
teamwork throughout the qualification campaign. Kenya overcame several strong opponents
before eliminating South Africa to book a ticket to the tournament, which will be held in
Morocco from October 17 to November 7, 2026.
The Junior Starlets’ achievement has been widely celebrated by football fans and
stakeholders, who believe it will inspire more young girls to pursue football and strengthen the
future of the women’s game in Kenya. As preparations begin for the World Cup, the team will be
